here it is easily noticeable that water soaked up the legs of the furniture and under the flooring materials causing the floor to lift.

Whether a person is away from home or just sleeping when their home experiences a water leak, the water being on the floor for any length of time will really warp flooring, and start soaking up the legs or furniture.

After the water loss was dried out, and the damaged carpeting material, wet drywall, old wet based boards are removed, the building will be monitored daily and dehumidifiers run constant to assure all walls and concrete fully dry.

Here at SERVPRO we treat every job equal rather it is a large or small job the customer needs. In this case the job was small, and we sent teams immediately to this home to assist the customer.

They had a small bathroom fire due to a fouled electrical plug and it caused a small bathroom fire. The fire escalated and damaged the walls and shower area near ceiling. Right away our team removed and bagged damaged materials and took them to the area outdoors where we will load these bags and dispose of the mess for the customer.

When homes are built there are pipes installed overhead that take a water supply from the water heater to the shower for hot and cold water demand.

These pipes do last for many years however eventually they break or crack and this causes a slow leak that often leaks for months before showing through the textured ceiling.

By the time it is noticed, there is mold in the ceiling and mold grows very quickly and can cause health effects for the family.

There are many times that an insurance company contacts us to assess a home that another restoration provider had worked on a water loss at.

Homeowners often decide to use a newly established restoration provider to hope to get a better deal, maybe even because they know someone there at the business. So often, these providers are good responders and get right to drying a home or pulling baseboards or halfway starting a demo of the mess...

Then- they tell the customer it's dry, hand them a business card of who they may wish to call for repairs, and then leave.

This leaves the home in total disarray and the family unable to live normally so they complain to their insurance who then suggests they should have contacted SERVPRO because SERVPRO stays on the job until it is fully rebuilt or repaired and usable, all in the same insurance claim.

When we arrive, we find more mold and advise the insurance company we are unable to start repairing the home until all the mold is properly removed.

In Arizona, the wind can be fierce once in a while and sun rotted shingles are easily damaged by strong wind.

Even a few lifted shingles can allow water to leak in so it is critical to roof tarp or repair the shingles right away.

This particular call, we opted to repair the shingles for the customer because it was monsoon season and we can make roof tarps very secure however there was going to be more rain that night and the rest of her roof was healthy and intact.

SERVPRO was able to get our construction crew out to properly repair these shingles the same day and our staff dropped back by her home a few times during the next week to verify her shingles weren't leaking or that more were lifting, and all was good.

It's always great when we can fully resolve the customer's needs saving them time and money as well as providing a resolution that lasts.

Wind knocked the entire tree down and the old heavy tree damaged the home

When a tree is older, very large, and often top heavy, the wind storms are very apt to blow the whole tree over and even the tree's roots lift out of the ground at times.

In Kingman the wind was fairly strong, however this home was up in elevation, on a hill and was really accessible for wind damage.

The customer called needing help. SERVPRO was fast to respond and we sent our crew, prepared to possibly cut up the tree, load up and haul away large metal debris, and we even prepared for a possible board up which means to secure broken windows or gapping holes in the home caused by twisting wind.

Manufactured homes have always been built of different sized framing and with different technology. In Arizona we actually have hundreds of families that make their home from a manufactured home.

When fire happens, it can actually be an appliance or tool or even a battery being charged that catches fire within a home. Our customer was gone and had been charging a tool in the garage.

The realtor came to show the home and noticed a smell of fire and called SERVPRO right away.

When she inspected the home, she found burnt floor in the garage and the battery pack totally melted down.

It was a real blessing that this situation didn't actually turn in to a garage or home fire.

There was damaged concrete and a terrible lingering smell of fire wen the realtor decided to contact SERVPRO.

Our cleaning team arrived very quickly, to clean  and resurface the concrete. Our cleaning team also accessed the damage, and was able to clean the smell out of the garage and did a duct cleaning as well to make sure future odors didn't filter through the vents into the home.

Of course 2020 was challenging for all of us and especially the restaurant business. Here in Lake Havasu City, we have enjoyed teaming up with some of the most popular restaurants in protecting not just the public but also the employees during such times.

Wind whips through quick and with our area having so many metal awning type covers used for RV's and boats, it is very common to have a wind storm tear down the awnings. Some are actually mounted to the existing homes which then causes damage to the home as well.

In homes, it is a very devastating feeling when the home catches fire.

While it is scary to experience fire inside our home, it is quite a set back to walk through your home "after" the fire department has safely put the fire out because they work they do, leaves the home an even larger disaster.

Insulation ends up falling down from the attic, debris is settled all over, and this is when choosing SERVPRO to help, ends up being such a relief on my levels.

To choose a Restoration Company that knows the importance of boarding up window openings, clean up from the fire department's mess, then to know SERVPRO will carefully pack up belongings, take them to their cleaning machines by Esporta and bring personal belongings back to clean and sanitary, while their Demo Team and their Repairs teams "Get to Work" in assessing damage, removing damage, then rebuilding the home, is the most settling feeling for a residential customer who's home has been burned and turned upside down. Any time a roof leak is not recognized, and water continues to saturate, it creates a heavy water build up between the roof and ceiling.

The weight if the water collected, eventually bursts and causes damages inside the structure as in this particular Commercial Office. The water weight made the ceiling very dangerous for people to be inside as when that breaks loose, everything will fall on to who ever is under the saturated ceiling. In this case, SERVPRO tapped off access because the florescent light fixture had already fallen and the water collected between ceiling and roof was ready to give away and fall.

When SERVPRO arrives, assessing the water leak is critical however, so is the safety of others.

The owner of the building was very understanding to the importance of not having this office open and our Water Mitigation Team and Repairs teams were able to do required Water Mitigation and some repairs while the business owner had the outside roof repaired for the future.

Often times, buildings sit empty when a business closes in the space and it is for sale. This means that for weeks and months, the space may not have anyone walking inside. In this Water Loss situation we were called because a smaller unit in this complex had a leak. The tenant contacted us and we arrived within 40 minutes that morning. 

Our team accesses the water loss and found that it has saturated the dividing wall that went to another unit next door. When we reached the contact person for the unit we were concerned about, we were told that it was no longer being occupied and was for sell.

SERVPRO explained the need to gain access and within an hour, a Manager of this entity met us and let us in. Right away we could see that this larger empty space is where all the water absorded through to. SERVPRO immediately set up to extract and treat carpets, baseboard removal, and began set up to dry out all wall cavity. Drywall also needed cut and removed.

The testing was performed daily and even with 12 dryers and daily checks, our technicians moved our equipment each day focusing on the areas testing with the most moisture.

While the tenant who found this leak felt he did'nt have much damage, he realized quickly that his leak had caused much water saturation to the unit beside him.

In these situations, Insurance companies and tenants begin going back and forth on who will be handling the cost on this.

SERVPRO is always there to support, access, dry out, and repair these losses, working with the businesses and billing later, as dry outs must be done immediately to prevent further damage and mold.

In this small business, they arrived to work to see the floors flooded after a 3 day weekend of being closed.

SERVPRO was called and was on site within 35 minutes, and the visible water from this leak was extracted within a short period of time so that she could open her doors for business.

SERVPRO returned daily to detect moisture and her walls were testing very high in moisture. She didn't want to have a demolition done as it was going to distract her ability to run business.

The testing showed high for 3 days so SERVPRO explained to her that doing a dry out was not going to be sufficient and mold will be unhealthy for her and the customers as well as the building. Her business insurance was involved by then and required further work be done to avoid mold growth.

Was able to remove drywall, further dry out, do appropriate mold testing, and replace the drywall and re-textured her wall, then re-painted so her business could resume within 6 days.

Framing of the commercial structure is exposed to see reveal that mold has grown deep in to the structure.

Roof Leaks are often hard to detect. In this commercial building, the roof is made of corrugated tin. While these roof coverings are known to be tough, storms have strong winds and that is what lifted the tin and allowed the water to leak. This went undetected for many months and eventually the owner called, after seeing mold. When SERVPRO arrived and accessed, the drywall and wall coverings were removed at the affected area. This picture shows that even the heavy 2 x 6 framing is affected by mold. When SERVPRO does these mitigations and repairs, the mold area must be removed further back than the visible issue appears. That is why it is very important to have repairs teams. Customers really appreciated only having to file 1 claim and get the problems resolved as well as the repairs completed.

This recent Commercial Customer did not ever have any water loss, however he rented a building that really needed upgraded and remodeled to fit his small business needs before he opened.

He was aware of our Construction Team, called, and SERVPRO was happy to help. We created a 3/4 wall for a supply room, cleaned carpets, repaired walls, repainted his new space.

When he contacted us, he was opening in a week and asked if we could accomplish the work within his time frame.

Whether up over head or down under your sink or bathrooms, pipes and water lines eventually fail, and usually start with a crack or break in pipe so the leaks are slow leaks at first. Very undetectable and worsen over time.

No matter what causes a water leak, the rooms closest by each leak, really suffers and in this case, it is the customers kitchen that ended up with the most inside damage that is going to require new flooring and drywall after dry out. Customer's never plan for these types of situations and having Homeowner's Insurance is certainly critical.

This homeowner, is on a very strict budget so her insurance company was key to helping with this disaster and the insurance company advised they use SERVPRO because they are fast and efficient as well as that SERVPRO is not just a disaster mitigation company but also a Construction Repair Company so insurance approves all the required work all in one process and step. This is great for the customer, as it brings them completely though the process all the way to the end where the home is fully restored. The water had sat so long it was soaking in to the floors and walls, and still showed a lot of water remaining on floors.

Often, homes sit for weeks, then when the owner gets home and notices these leaks, many times the water has been seeping in to the walls and flooring, causing the need for a lot of repair. This home was newly built, and a pipe in walls was not installed properly so since pipes become under pressure, they will leak if not sealed and installed well.

This customer was shocked to come home to this leak and find water had been soaking deep in to their walls and even softened the grout around tile.

This is why they chose SERVPRO, as the customer had used SERVPRO in the past for a remodeling job and already knew SERVPRO could handle the clean up, dry out, and full repairs while he went back to his main home.

Within 8 weeks, the customer returned to a totally restored home and while he was away, our Manager and Team spoke to him daily so the customer would always know what was going on in his repairs.

When a home is built, water lines are in the walls, overhead in the ceiling and under the sinks as well as in the garage. After many years, the stress and strain put on these pipes will wear them out causing small stress cracks which leak in very small drips or unnoticeable seepage.

At first, it is unknown, yet over time, you begin to see damage. This damage may start to appear as a wet stain on the inside ceiling, or wet under your sinks.

Garages are most commonly where the RO System, Overflow Tank, and Water Softener Equipment is installed as well as the Hot Water Heaters. Eventually, the pipes and plumbing will cause trouble and when it does, it may leak inside the wall cavity, so it takes time before anyone notices wet walls.

It often isn't until water begins appearing inside on the ceiling that people realize there is any problem.

In the service area we provide Water Loss Services in, it is the hot moist desert. Many snowbirds own homes here as 2nd homes so when they experience a water leak it may leak for weeks or months before recognized. Mold will grow spores all up the inside walls. When there is any sign of mold, all drywall is removed and n this customer's case, he had come to visit his home and walked through the door to mold everywhere. Right away he knew not to stay in the house, called his insurance who always prefers suggesting SERVPRO of LHC/BHC/Kingman. In this case, SERVPRO was on scene within 2 hours, starts dryout and installed machines blowing in every room, extracted all visible water, began running air scrubbers in every room. Daily, SERVPRO Mitigation Teams tested, monitored, and moved all equipment to new strategic locations throughout this home.

Vacation Homes are very common in the area we at SERVPRO LHC / BHC / KGM provide assistance on and it's tough when it happens in a vacation home because it goes undetected for so long that it ends up having much more damage than if the family lived in the home full time and noticed the issue in a day or so. This home was flooded and leaking for just at 3 weeks before the customer came and noticed. As usual, their insurance company advised to use SERVPRO since this is gong to require much more repair than to remove water and fix the leak. SERVPRO got the loss call and had the team on site within 40 minutes because it was crucial to get this water extracted and begin a dry out to access for mold. It only affected approximately 2 1/2 ft up and the drywall was removed throughout the home from the bottom of the floor to 4 ft up, then fully replaced, repaired for this customer, after all mold was removed. All baseboards were installed as new along the bottom as well so their home was returned "Like it never even happened."

In the process where SERVPRO is preparing a home that has had Fire damage, the smells and air quality are very strong and unhealthy to say the least.

Even weeks after the entire home has been demo'd and the inside of the home is close to being ready for Construction to replace Drywall, Re-Texture Walls, Paint, Lay flooring, etc... The odor still lingers!

Here at SERVPRO we sanitize the air quality by cleaning Ducts, and even often replacing the Duct Work. The next step is to encapsulate all wood framing that was not damaged however still has been affected by odor.

Once full encapsulation is complete, the home begins to have a clean smell and is safe for being reconstructed.

In these unprecedented times, Commercial Buildings that typically have high traffic daily from the public, are getting very serious about health, safety and prevention. SERVPRO being Bio-Hazard Certified and very skilled and geared up for these Disinfection Protocols, have been accepting jobs to fully disinfect larger buildings while they are shut down so as to be safe to employees, and the public and be ready to reopen their doors when allowed by the government based on the CDC standards.

The picture shown here was their second of multiple extractions done inside this casino. Storm Damage affects customer's rooftop

Storm Damage- often brought on by high winds and rain, really tears up shingles, especially if the homes' roofs are more than 15 years old.

In a recent storm, SERVPRO was a first responder for a home a resident had just moved in to. She acknowledged the roof being an older shingle roof. When the storm hit,  she never even considered roof issues.

It was 3 days later, she went to turn a light on and the light switch seemed not to work.

In further looking, she also noticed damp walls however it was not actually visible. She was advised to call an electrician who did evaluate and told her she had a bad leak that had damaged her electrical and before he could repair electric she needed to get the leak repaired as it was a safety concern as well.

Her insurance told her it should be SERVPRO that they use as SERVPRO can first do a board up on the roof to promote no more leaks, then she could move forward with dry out and mold safety check, also provided by SERVPRO.  Her insurance further explained that when a home has had a leak, mold concerns are high and only a SERVPRO could they guarantee a safe dry out and mold mitigation process.

Residential home fires are always a real shock to a family! Even when a house fire gets put out quickly, many rooms in the home still end up highly effected. Intense heat, heavy smoke, the mess that remains from soot and the water and retardant chemicals sprayed all over the home by firefighters when putting the fire out- all take a major toll on the whole home.

Then there is a very heavy smell of smoke that lingers. All of this is why SERVPRO has put together such an extensive plan in the Mitigation of demo and clean up. Many seasonal residential customers in our area leave their homes for several months out of each year to live in second homes across the U.S. This makes for trouble if their home is vacant and experiences a water leak from a broken plumbing pipe situation. Then the home sits in our hot summers from weeks to months before the homeowner returns to find mold growing way up their walls. When SERVPRO of Lake Havasu City / Bullhead City / Kingman and surrounding areas gets called to their home, our Team suits up before entering as by then they have mold and spores growing 4 feet or more up their walls. The water extraction, mold scrub and drywall removal is done quickly, however SERVPRO extracts, dries out, and scrubs the air to be sure all mold is removed, and the inside environment is safe! Once this is accomplished, and the drywall is removed, and the customer's insurance approves, SERVPRO sends their Repairs Construction Team in to rebuild. This was an aluminum roof seam sealed with a Material that needs maintenance from time to time.

Here at SERVPRO we are always ready and available for Storm Roof Tarps and to help customers as a First Responder on any leak caused by Roof issues.

What we are finding is that when any water damage happens inside your home and the finding is an issue with the roof whether it be a shingle or tile roof, your insurance company often struggles in approving coverage for water damage repairs when there was not a recent heavy wind or storm that freshly caused the damage to the roof that leaked water in to your home. Insurance Companies feel that a homeowner is responsible for home maintenance and to have your roof checked from year to year for any type of normal malfunction to the materials that as a home or property owner, should be maintained.

This means that if your home has a roof leak that causes damage to the inside just after a heavy storm and it is clearly visible the roof is damaged due to the recent storm, its much easier to get approval for coverage.

Once again, SERVPRO was a fast responder to this bedroom leak damage caused from a leaky roof that allowed water to leak down the wall, into her bedroom.

Normally, mold is already forming and as usual, SERVPRO did removed all molding in the home, the affected drywall was also removed. A Dry Out was set up and monitored over the week ed as well.

The customer was very pleased to know that SERVPRO was also going to be capable of sending the SERVPRO Repairs Team and completely rebuild and replace everything and paint to match exactly as the bedroom was before this trouble happened.

The dry out was a 4 day process, the insurance approval took 4 days, and once this all was approved, the Project Manager worked together with this customer to put a repairs plan in place which was also completed within an additional 6 days.

This means that this customer had everything resolved and her bedroom back to normal "Like it never even happened," in less than 2 weeks.

Taking precautions during a controlled demo inside a commercial building utility room.  Leak from the roof into a small utility room caused damage to the drywall and insulation with some signs of possible mold growth.  This photo shows the affected area during the controlled demo process with a plastic containment barrier up, to contain the affected area from unaffected areas, with the green air scrubber inside the containment to cleans the air inside the containment preventing dust and other contaminants in the air from spreading.  The air scrubber has a HEPA filtration system built in which is the best filtration known today.  The air scrubber runs nonstop throughout the remediation process.  The air scrubber will continue to run from the time of demo completion to the time of the clearance testing.  Taking all precautions to prevent any health risks involved with mold growth.  SERVPRO of Lake Havasu City/Bullhead City/Kingman is the professional restoration company you know and trust to do the job right the first time.

Wet Ceiling Tiles

At our local city offices, the staff returned from a 3 day weekend to find the building with wet and saturated walls affecting 5 offices and a break room as well as their Server "IT" room and the electronics within these spaces. SERVPRO was called and arrived with all equipment ready to mitigate and dry out the entire building. First the team located the leak and turned off the water main because the first employee that arrived that morning and noticed the entire situation was new, and had never been shown where the water main is located. While the City Building Manager handled getting a plumber, SERVPRO worked quickly to extract all water in their carpets, pulled wall molding, test wall cavities and install the Injecto-Dry Machines to further dry out the wall cavities quickly. Daily testing and constant dry out methods dried out this building in less than 72 hours, and our SERVPRO Repairs Team replaced the drywall at lower walls, textured, painted and fully reconstructed their entire building office spaces within a 7 day time frame so that all employees were able to return to their productivity.

SERVPRO was called to a Commercial Building last week where the business was needing to open their doors for customers within 45 minutes time. Their carpets were unsafe and very wet for the public to be walking in on.

SERVPRO arrived as soon as receiving the Loss Call with our Weighted Rover Machine to push down with the technician's body weight squeezing down on the flat surface to extract more water in a faster time frame for this bank that was opening shortly.

While the technician was baring down on the floors pulling a lot of water out quickly, the water was being directed out back to the green space so that the outdoor area would not be overly flooded when customers arrived.

Additionally- our team of technicians started pulling baseboards, testing wall cavities and installing Injecto-Dry machines to be sure the walls dried out in 48 to 72 hours making sure no mold grew. Check water pressure regulators

Elevated water pressure in the plumbing can be caused by a bad water pressure regulator.  High pressure causes a pipe burst or supply line break.  This is a recipe for disaster. 

Be sure to anually have a plumber check you water pressure regulator or there is a tool kit at your local hardware store if you want to check it yourself.  The water pressure regulator is typically located below the water/hose bib outside, next to the foundation of the home.  Water pressure should be between 35 and 65 PSI (pounds per square inch).  The regulator is a control valve that reduces the water pressure in your home or business to a usable and safe level for daily use.  Save your home from an unnecessary water loss by taking the precautions of maintaining the water pressure in your home or business.

After a fire damage in your home or business, there are a few things you should do and should not do prior to our SERVPRO team arrival.  Smoke damage can also cause a lot of damage in and around the affected areas.  One of the things you should do, is to limit movement in the affected areas of the home or business.  Soot and particles can become embedded into the carpet and upholstery.  This includes touching with your un-gloved hands.  If you absolutely need to enter the affected area, place some old linens on carpet traffic areas.  Also if your electricity is off, completely empty your freezer and refrigerator and leave doors open to prevent bad odor and possible biohazards.  

You should never attempt to dry wet areas with any air movement as this will cause soot and particles to become air born.  You should not attempt to shampoo affected upholstery or carpet without the proper chemicals, this could set in the smoke odor.

Prevent your pipes from freezing

When temperatures drop in the rigid winter days, your pipes are at risk of freezing over and causing a water damage in your home or business.  Pipes are at risk once temperatures reach 20 degrees.  Pipes freezing is the most common cause for water damages in the winter months.  Pipes at the greatest risk are the ones in unheated areas of the home or business.  However your exterior pipes in the wall can also freeze.  Take the proper precautions to prevent your pipes from freezing over.  

Pipe insulation is approximately 50 cents per linear foot at any local hardware stores.  Also, as unusual as it may seem, having your faucet running to a slow drip of water is said to prevent frozen pipes in the winter.  This may sound like wasting water or increasing your water bill, however it would be more expensive dealing with the aftermath of a water loss.  Keeping your heater on at consistent temperature during the day and night helps to prevent frozen pipes.  At the very least the temperature in the home should never drop below 55 degrees, even if you decide to leave your home or business for a long duration of time. 

If you suspect your pipes are frozen, be cautious as you attempt to thaw out the pipes as you may already have a pipe break.  Slowly thaw out using an electric heating pad, electric hair dryer, or an electric heater.  Never use a direct flame to any pipe as this could cause damage to the structure of the pipe.

There are many types of ways water can cause damage.

Water has a way of getting places you never thought, and causing damage in ways you weren't expecting. When pipes burst and a home is flooded, or hit with a plumbing disaster (like a burst pipe), the situation can quickly get out of hand. This is why these incidents are among the most expensive problems a homeowner can face. Contaminated water not only creates immediate structural problems, it can leave serious biological threats behind after it has been removed. Drying out the affected area is very critical and must be done thoroughly and in a timely manner.

Category three water is water that is grossly contaminated. It can cause severe illness or death if ingested.  Its sources include sewer backup, flooding, toilet overflow with feces, and stagnant liquid that has begun to support bacterial growth.

Dirty water is filled with all kinds of deadly substances, ranging from chemical residues to animal feces to parasites. Bacteria, viruses and fungi grow explosively in contaminated fluid, and severe health risks, like salmonella and hepatitis, are common in flood waters.

This problem is compounded by the composition of most homes, which are filled with organic materials. Drywall, wood and the matter that is trapped in carpet fibers are just a few examples, and they can give pathogens room to grow. Within 48 hours, mold may begin creeping behind the walls and releasing spores, and any organic materials that have been soaked through by contaminated fluid will usually have to be destroyed.

     Any pool or spa which is at least 18 inches in depth shall

1)  Be enclosed by at least a five (5) foot wall, fence, or wire fencing.

2)  Have no openings in the wall or fence through which a spherical object inches in diameter can pass.

3)  Gates will be self closing and self latching with the latch located at least 54 inches above the underlying surface.

4)  The wall or fence shall be at least twenty inches from the water's edge.

If you live and work in Mohave County, the state of Arizona offers some unique tax benefits for supporting our public schools.  There are five different tax credits that an eligible individual may claim.  For this blog, we will concentrate on the most common individual tax credit.

An individual may claim a credit for making contributions or paying fees to a public school for support of qualified activities or programs.  In 2016, single taxpayers can contribute up to $200.  For married taxpayers, the credit cannot exceed $400. 

Your contribution reduces your state tax liability dollar for dollar, and goes directly to support qualifying programs and activities  Qualifying activities include sports, standardized testing fees for college credit, vocational education, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

Labor Day weekend is generally considered the end of the Summer.  It's one last long weekend to enjoy the sun and the water before Autumn arrives.  If you plan on taking a trip away from home this Labor Day Weekend, there are several actions you can take to reduce your chance of having a serious water damage affect your home.

1)  Check all supply lines to major appliances for kinks or leaks, including washing machine hoses, ice maker lines, and the reverse osmosis system.

2)  Inspect the supply lines for serviceability at the toilets.

3)  Hire a plumber to inspect your pressure regulator before leaving town.  The peace of mind will be worth the cost.

Monsoon season has arrived in Arizona.  Known variously as the Mexican monsoon, the Arizona monsoon or the Southwest monsoon, the season lasts in Arizona from June until the end of September.  During the monsoon season, the Arizona desert experiences high winds, dust storms, and severe downpours that often result in flash flooding.  Below are several safety tips to weather our summer storms.

1. Do not attempt to cross flooded washes or roadways.  Even if the water looks shallow, there is often a layer of mud beneath the water's surface that can disable your vehicle.

2. If driving while it’s raining, slow down.  The roads are very hazardous at the beginning of a downpour as oils and automotive fluids are washed off of the asphalt.  This creates unusually slippery conditions.

3. Keep a safe distance from windows as high winds can blow heavy debris.
